Feeling Drained All The Time? You Might Be Burnt Out

You’re getting through your days. You’re doing what needs to be done. But everything feels heavier than it should. You wake up tired. Small things feel like effort. Even the things you used to enjoy don’t feel quite the same. You might find yourself wondering, “why do I feel like this all the time?”. It could be more than just being tired…it might be burnout.

What is Burnout?

Burnout isn’t just needing a good night’s sleep. It’s a state of chronic mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion caused by prolonged stress. It tends to build gradually over time, often when you’ve been pushing through, coping, and carrying on without enough space to pause. Burnout doesn’t always look dramatic. In fact, it often shows up quietly.

Signs You Might Be Burnt Out

Burnout can look different for everyone, but there are common patterns. You might notice:

  • Feeling constantly tired or run down, even after resting

  • Struggling to focus or stay motivated

  • Feeling emotionally drained, overhwhelmed, or detached

  • Losing interest or enjoyment in things you used to care about

  • Becoming more irritable, negative, or withdrawn

  • Feeling like you’re just “going through the motions”

  • A sense that you don’t have. much left to give

Over time, burnout can lead to feeling disconnected, depleted, and stuck.

Burnout vs. Stress

We often use “stress” and “burnout” interchangeably, but they’re not the same. Stress tends to feel like too much - too many demands, to many things to jungle, a sense of urgency. Burnout, on the other hand, feels like not enough - not enough energy, not enough motivation, not enough care. With stress, you’re often still engaged - just overwhelmed. With burnout, you may feel detached, flat, or even numb. It’s less about being busy…and more about feeling depleted.

Why Burnout Happens

Burnout doesn’t come from one bad day. It builds when stress is constant and unrelenting - when demands keep coming, but your capacity to cope doesn’t get the chance to recover. This might come from:

  • Ongoing pressure or high expectations

  • Feeling like you have to keep going, no matter what

  • Taking on too much or struggling to say no

  • Feeling stuck, directionless, or out of control

  • Constant overthinking with no mental switch-off

Over time, this creates a kind of internal depletion - like your energy has been gradually drained without being restored.

Burnout Isn’t Failure

If you’re feeling this way, it’s not because you’re doing something wrong. Burnout is often a sign that you’ve been coping for a long time - pushing through, holding things together, trying your best with what you’ve got. At some point, your mind and body start to say: “something needs to change.”

How I Support Burnout At The Mind Thread

This is something I work with a lot. Many of the people I support come in feeling exactly like this - drained, stuck, overwhelmed, and unsure where to start. Through one-to-one coaching, I offer a space to:

  • Untangle what’s been building up beneath the surface

  • Understand the patterns that might be keeping you stuck

  • Make sense of why things feel the way the way they do

  • Gently rebuild clarity, energy, and direction

Life can feel heavy sometimes, but you don’t have to carry it all on your own.

If any of this resonates, it might be a sign that something needs attention - not more pressure, not more pushing through, but a moment to pause and properly understand what’s going on.

That’s exactly what I offer at The Mind Thread.

A space to slow things down, talk things through, and start making sense of why you’re feeling the way you are — without judgment, and without needing to have it all figured out.
